Merasty Backing Ignatieff’s Leadership Bid

Liberal leadership candidate Michael Ignatieff has received the endorsement of northern Saskatchewan MP Gary Merasty.

Merasty says he’s backing Ignatieff because his vision includes implementing the $5-billion Kelowna Accord the Tories have shelved, and working with Aboriginal people to build upon the Kelowna deal.

Merasty also says Ignatieff will make sure Liberal Party policies work towards improving the quality of life and inclusion of all First Nations and Metis people.

Ignatieff says a future Liberal government must meet the obligations in the Kelowna deal in full, and go beyond it.

He also says self-governance is the right course for Aboriginal communities.

Ignatieff’s Aboriginal campaign team consists of 12 representatives across Canada.

The Liberals choose a new leader in December.
