A Saskatchewan Metis actor and singer will be honoured at this evening’s Aboriginal Music and Arts Festival showcase gala in Prince Albert.

Andrea Menard will be recognized for her contributions to the arts community.

She encourages Aboriginal artists to believe in themselves and to never take ‘no’ for an answer.

“The only ‘no’ that matters, that you actually listen to, is your own spirit, your own obstacles. Because I had self-doubts more than actually belief in myself, and if I would have listened to those self-doubts, I would not be where I am today,” Menard says.

Menard says it’s an honour to be recognized by her own community, and she is proud her work as an artist has been able to impact people’s lives.

Tonight’s gala begins at 7 p.m. at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts.
