Members Of Rival Metis Group Urged To Come Forward

La Loche mayor Georgina Jolibois says she knows very little about a recently-announced development agreement in the area.

It was just last week that Toronto-based Blacksands Petroleum announced a deal with a group calling itself the La Loche Clearwater Development Authority.

However, both the provincial government and Metis Nation – Saskatchewan have voiced questions over the deal, saying the company will have to go through legitimate channels.

Jolibois says she wishes members of the LLCDA would just call her office and introduce themselves.

Jolibois says her office isn’t sure whether the Clearwater group is a legal entity, or if it has the authority to seek ratification from Aboriginal people in the area.
