A date has been finalized for a meeting between northern leaders and the company that wants to do oil sands exploration work north of La Loche.

La Loche Metis local leader Don Montgrand says the CEO of Calgary-based Oilsands Quest, Christopher Hopkins, has told him that May 18th is the only day he has available to meet with local First Nations, Metis and municipal leaders.

Interest in the project has been high ever since the recent announcement that the company was planning to do some drilling to get a sense of the oil sands potential in northwest Saskatchewan.

Montgrand says Hopkins is doing the right thing by involving northern leaders early on.

This month’s meeting is slated to be held in Descharme Lake.
