Roughly 1,000 delegates are taking part in a conference at the Thunderchild First Nation aimed at setting up an Aboriginal health care system.

Yesterday, speakers hammered home the main theme — that the current health care system isn’t working for Aboriginal people, so they have to get back to their traditional system.

According to spokesman Eldon Okanee, the pursuit of Indian control of Indian health can’t be stressed enough.

Speakers today include a doctor from Hawaii, a presenter from the Navajo Nation and former Assembly of First Nations National Chief Ovide Mercredi.
