An economic analyst in Meadow Lake says talks are underway about possibly offering daily flights to and from Fort McMurray.

Barry Lewis of the Northwest Regional Economic Development Authority says one-way trips would only take 35 minutes.

Lewis says Alberta residents could take advantage of Meadow Lake’s beautiful wilderness, while Saskatchewan residents could fly into work at the oilsands.

He adds the Meadow Lake group is currently in talks with three different air carriers about the idea.

Lewis believes the idea would still be viable even after the Garson Lake road project is complete.

He notes it would still take four hours to actually drive to Fort McMurray from Meadow Lake.
