McClean Lake Mill Shutting Down

AREVA Resources has announced plans to temporarily shut down its uranium processing operations at McClean Lake.

Company spokesman Alun Richards says approximately 120 workers at the site will be laid off, as well as 20 more in Saskatoon.

Richards explains the problem is that they have run out of ore to process at the site.

The plan is to start things up again once the Cigar Lake mine begins operating.

Richards says AREVA is continuing to explore the idea of constructing a road from the McArthur River mine to McClean Lake so that ore can be trucked in. However, that idea is still being worked out.

He stresses the company will do what it can to assist the workers who are losing their jobs, and hopefully bring them back in the future.
