The embattled former mayor of Cumberland House says he intends to fight the assault charge he is facing.

Dale McAuley is accused of attacking his political rival, current mayor Andy McKay, outside the community’s arena back in February.

He made his first court appearance last week in the northern village, and will re-appear in court next month.

According to court officials, the judge overseeing the matter will look into the possibility of using alternative measures to settle this issue.

But McAuley is not interested in that because he insists he’s not guilty.

McAuley was defeated by McKay in last fall’s municipal election.
