A northern leader says there appears to be some confusion over how much money elders are entitled to receive through the Primrose Lake Air Weapons Range settlement package.

Beauval Mayor Alex Maurice claims some individuals have been circulating rumours that some elders in the affected Metis communities can get up to $30,000 if they refuse to sign the current agreement.

Maurice says nothing could be further from the truth, adding $10,000 is the most elders can get.

He also says everyone should remember that the deal is a one-time payment only.

Maurice believes payments could go out in September if those in charge of the funds act quickly enough.
