Maurice Listening to Calls for New Metis Group

A runner-up for president in this year’s Metis election says there is a growing movement to create a new Metis organization in the province.

Alex Maurice says a number of elders in the northwest have expressed their concerns with the controversial Metis Nation – Saskatchewan election and appeals process.

Maurice feels the appeals decisions announced Monday by the Metis Elections Commission have done nothing to ease their concerns.

Maurice says he’s hearing reports that some Metis senators not on the commission are also becoming disenchanted with the whole process.

He believes one of the things that could prevent a possible split in the Metis Nation is another election, run by a third party, but with Metis observers.
