The RCMP believe a 28-year-old man killed in La Loche this past weekend was thrown off the hood of a car following a fight.

The Mounties say their investigation to this point indicates the victim and a 22-year-old man were involved in an altercation on the street early Saturday morning when the 22-year-old began to drive away in his car.

The victim allegedly jumped onto the hood of the car and was thrown from the vehicle.

He was transported to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

When the local RCMP arrived at the scene of the incident, the suspect vehicle had left the scene.

The suspect was arrested later that morning and was charged with criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

He was granted a conditional release from custody and will make his first court appearance in La Loche on October 22nd.

His name won’t be released until after those court proceedings.

The victim’s name is also being withheld — at least until his family consents to it being released.
