A 42-year-old man is dead after leading RCMP on a chase near Canoe Narrows.

The Mounties say they received a complaint of a distraught man driving around the community with a firearm late yesterday morning.

Police attempted to stop him in his vehicle, but he refused to stop.

He was followed on Highway 903 and finally stopped over an hour later about 5 kilometres south of Keeley Lake.

Just over an hour into negotiations, the RCMP say the man’s rifle went off and the man was found dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
