An Aboriginal man is facing several charges, including attempted murder, following an alleged shooting incident on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Early yesterday morning, Waskesiu RCMP were called to the community to investigate reports of a gun shot heard on the reserve just after 5:30 am.

When officers arrived, they found a 35-year-old suspect wielding a rifle. He was confronted and escaped arrest by running into a nearby wooded area. He later turned himself into officers without incident.

The man is facing one count of attempted murder, one count of pointing a weapon, and two counts of assault against a 22-year-old female band member, who was reportedly not injured in the event.

The name of the accused will not be released pending a possible court appearance today in Prince Albert.
