Long Wait for Black Lake Residents Almost Over

By the end of the day, the Black Lake First Nation will once again have a chief and council.

The northern Saskatchewan band has been without a local government for the last few months following a bitter power struggle earlier this year.

At one point, two men were claiming to be chief — which prompted the community to ask a third party manager to run things in Black Lake while the community revamped its election act.

The two men running for chief today are the same two at the centre of the dispute earlier this year — Victor Echodh and Freddie Throassie.

Throassie won a controversial election this past winter after appealing the election won by Echodh in January 2003.
