Loan Program For Lots Could See Plenty Of Use

More northern communities could be receiving money through the province’s residential subdivision program, according to a government spokesman.

It was announced yesterday that La Loche and La Ronge will receive a combined $3 million to help them develop serviced lots.

The money will be repaid to the program once the lots are sold.

Municipal Affairs spokesman Greg Urbanoski says the two centres were selected from criteria based on housing needs, lot development costs and the amount of money that’s available.

He says approval could also come for other northern communities.

La Ronge Mayor Joe Hordyski says the town has been trying to do a subdivision for a few years now, as it is running out of residential lots — and the funds will allow them to get the job done right.
