Eleven members of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band are getting set to graduate from a five-week Peacekeepers training program at SIAST’s Woodland Campus in Prince Albert.

The program has taught them how to peacefully resolve situations in their communities, and for most of them, it will lead to a job in their home community or reserve.

Roger Ratt of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Police Management Board says once they begin working, they will have many duties.

Ratt says they will be doing shift work in partnership with the RCMP.

The new recruits will also be able to enforce bylaws.

The graduates are from the communities of Sucker River, Hall Lake and La Ronge.

Ratt notes some of the students will begin work right away.
