Officials with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band say Chief Harry Cook was expressing his own personal opinion, and not the band’s position, when he endorsed the Saskatchewan Party last week.

Band spokesman Kevin Roberts says recent media coverage of Cook’s comments may have given the impression that there is widespread support amongst the band’s 75-hundred members for the Saskatchewan Party.

However, Roberts says Cook expressed his public support for Elwin Hermanson and the Saskatchewan Party as an individual, and not as someone representing the views of the band itself.

Roberts says Cook didn’t consult the band’s council or its members prior to making his statements, but points out that the chief and any other individual band member is free to support and endorse any candidate and any party of their choosing.
