Residents of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Little Red River reserve have elected a new representative to the band’s council.

Gloria McKenzie came away with the most votes in yesterday’s byelection.

McKenzie finished with 62 votes — Thomas Mirasty captured 48 votes, while Vicky Joseph secured 34 votes.

A total of 148 people voted in yesterday’s byelection at Little Red. There were 184 eligible voters, including 35 who live off-reserve.

It was called after former councillor Keith Mirasty was disqualified from holding office over allegations of financial mismanagement — allegations Mirasty has repeatedly said are unfounded.
