A Little Pine First Nation man accused of killing a fellow band member this past Saturday has apparently tried to kill himself twice since being arrested.

Dwayne Coleman Sapp, Jr. is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 25-year-old Terrence Sapp.

Crown Prosecutor Dennis Cann told court today that the accused first tried to hang himself, but was stopped by his father.

Cann said he then tried to choke himself while in a police cruiser.

Cann said the suspect hears voices and could try to kill himself again.

To protect him, Cann suggested the accused be transferred to the forensic psychiatric unit in North Battleford — but the defence did not agree.

He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on April 1st.
