Linklater Avoids Jail Time

A Pelican Narrows woman accused of stabbing her common-law husband to death will not have to do any jail time.

Joanna Laurel Linklater pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Friday, and was given a 2-year conditional sentence to be served in the community.

Linklater stabbed Joseph Jamie Merasty on January 1st, 2003 in Pelican Narrows.

Linklater’s lawyer told court that Merasty had beaten Linklater on several occasions and had threatened to do it again earlier that night.
