A 22-year-old man from Canoe Lake has been chosen to represent the provincial Liberals in northwest Saskatchewan in the next provincial election.

Nathan Opikokew says he’s running for the Liberals in the Athabasca riding because he likes what party leader David Karwacki has been saying recently about youth.

Opikokew also describes himself as a lifetime Liberal.

The Athabasca riding has been an NDP stronghold.

In fact, the only time the Liberals have had any success there was when current NDP MLA Buckley Belanger represented the Liberals in the late 1990s.

But Opikokew believes he will be an appealing choice to young voters in the constituency — many of whom haven’t bothered to vote in the past.
