A Liberal MP is calling for the creation of new legislation to cut down on the trafficking of Aboriginal women in Canada.

Anita Neville says young Aboriginal women are being lured into prostitution and then being trafficked to other parts of the country.

She says the numbers are hard to track, but the reports have been backed up by other groups in the country.

Neville travelled to Washington this week for a conference on the issue.

She says American non-governmental organizations have also heard the reports of women in this country being trafficked for sex.

Neville says the Canadian government must create specific legislation to curb this growing practice.

Neville says the Harper government can’t label itself as being tough on crime, unless it takes action on the issue.
