Liberal Official Disputes Chief’s Claim

The president of the Saskatchewan Liberal Association says preparations are being made to stage a new nomination process in the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River riding.

Frank Proto says he already has put calls out to riding association president Cheryl Maurice about when the best time to hold a meeting would be.

He says an annual general meeting and selection of a new executive also seems in order.

Proto admits he has heard calls from Shoal Lake Cree Nation Chief Marcel Head that a nomination process needs to happen as soon as possible.

Head wrote a letter in The National Post last week in which he referred to himself as the riding association president.

Proto says Head is not the president — but he says the chief does have a point about the need for a new nomination, and work is already underway.

Proto says he doubts Liberal Leader Stephane Dion will appoint anyone this time around.

He also says the nomination process may need to happen in more than one location.
