Liberal Nomination To Exclude Ile-a-la-Crosse

A northern Saskatchewan mayor says the Liberal nomination process for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River is missing a key ingredient.

Duane Favel says he has learned that Ile-a-la-Crosse will not have a polling station for the nomination, which is expected to take place sometime next month.

Favel says the move will cause long drives for voting party members in his community and leave many stranded.

He says he wrote the party a letter outlining his concerns — and the Liberals responded by saying the communities with the largest number of members were the ones being selected to host the nomination meetings.

Favel says he has heard that Canoe Lake will receive a polling station, but isn’t sure who else.

So far, no one from the party has been available for comment.

The date for the nomination hasn’t been released — but it’s expected to be a hotly contested battle between Joan Beatty and David Orchard.
