There was a very close vote in yesterday’s election for chief in Onion Lake.

Challenger Henry Lewis defeated incumbent Wallace Fox by a vote count of 483 to 470.

Lewis was the band’s chief for a couple of years until Fox took over in the last band election held 2 years ago.

Now, Lewis is back in power.

There’s also been some changes made to the band’s council following yesterday’s vote.

Newcomers Oliver Fox, Pat Dillon, Philip Chief and Joe Waskewitch Sr. will join incumbents Clement Cardinal, Joe Dillon, Dan Chief and Darrell Carter.

All of the winners from yesterday’s election will serve 2-year terms in office.
