Let Bands Into Emission Reduction Program: Morin

An environmental activist is calling on the Canadian government to let First Nations participate in a program aimed at developing countries.
Donald Morin says the Harper government should allow bands to enter into the reduced emissions from deforestation and degradation initiative.
He explains that the program is the brainchild of the United Nations, and is aimed at improving the ecological use of land.
However, he feels the federal government doesn’t want to adopt the program because it could hurt Alberta’s and Saskatchewan’s resource development.
Morin adds that Saskatchewan has vast stretches of timberland that could be used for carbon credits on the international climate exchange, so First Nations should try to take advantage of this opportunity.
