Leaders To Discuss Violence Against Native Women

The issue of violence against Aboriginal women will be discussed at a major government policy forum next year.

Deb Higgins, the minister responsible for the Status of Women in Saskatchewan, says the idea was approved at a meeting of federal and provincial politicians last week in Regina.

She says the forum will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal women to share their ideas and talk about programs that could help.

She says her office will work closely with Aboriginal women’s groups along the way.

Higgins isn’t sure when or where the forum will take place, but believes it will happen sometime early in 2006.
