NDP leader Jack Layton says strong family roots and a grounded approach will help propel NDP candidate Brian Morin in his bid to win the upcoming federal by-election in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

Layton and Morin made campaign stops in places like Big River, Meadow Lake and the Waterhen Lake First Nation this past weekend.

Layton says, unlike other candidates, Morin knows what he stands for, and knows “why he is doing this”.

He insists Morin “is not going to be blown around by the winds of politics”.

According to Layton, Morin is not the type of person that says one thing, and does something else.

Layton he is also impressed by Morin’s insistence that community leaders be consulted on issues like oilsands development.

He says it is this type of grassroots diplomacy that needs to happen throughout the country.

Layton also says, while the Liberals have been abstaining from key votes, his party is making a strong stance against the Tories on items like the federal budget.
