An indigenous law professor from Ontario says he believes Canada’s treaties are under attack these days.
However, John Borrows says good strides are being made in getting more Canadians aware of how the agreements affect them.
Borrows spoke yesterday at the University of Saskatchewan.
He says there are people out there who would like to see the treaties erased, without even knowing what they mean.
Borrows also argues treaties are actually helping propel business arrangements and legal agreements forward between industries and bands.
He notes there are numerous court fights in B.C. involving companies and First Nations because there are no treaties in place in that province to help guide them.
