Laliberte Votes Against Liberal Motion

Churchill River MP Rick Laliberte voted against the wishes of his own party in the House of Commons today.

The Liberals introduced a time-allocation motion to end debate on Bill C-6 — the Specific Claims Resolutions Act.

The Liberals used the motion to speed up passage of the bill, which has been delayed by the stalling tactics of Canadian Alliance MP Maurice Vellacott.

Vellacott and several First Nations leaders are opposed to the bill, saying it will do nothing to speed up the resolution of land claims, but will, instead, make it harder for First Nations to get fair and timely settlements.
