Laliberte to Run as an Independent

Rick Laliberte has confirmed he will be running as an independent in the federal election.

The incumbent Churchill River MP chose not to seek the Liberal nomination over a perceived lack of support from the party when his travel spending was making headlines.

Laliberte doesn’t think that issue will hurt his chances at getting re-elected in Churchill River.

He also doesn’t feel running as an independent will split the northern Aboriginal vote in the riding and give the Conservatives an edge.

In the last election, most of the support for the Liberals and the NDP in Churchill River came from northern Aboriginal communities.
