Laliberte to Collect $70,000 in Severance Pay

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says former Churchill River MP Rick Laliberte will be getting just over 70-thousand dollars in severance.

The severance pay is given to any MP that retires or is defeated in an election.

Laliberte, of course, lost his seat in Parliament to the Conservatives’ Jeremy Harrison in Monday’s election.

The federation was very critical of the high travel tab Laliberte racked up in the last couple of years, and that’s why spokesman John Williamson says his group is not sorry to see Laliberte go.

While Laliberte will collect a severance package, he does not qualify for a government pension because he wasn’t in office for the minimum 10 years.
