The independent candidate running in the Churchill River consituency believes job creation will be the defining issue for voters in the riding on Election Day.

Incumbent MP Rick Laliberte says rampant unemployment is the issue that affects northerners the most.

Laliberte has been a proponent of a form of territorial government for northern Saskatchewan. He feels a regional government controlled by northerners would be in a better position to create the needed jobs than either the federal or provincial governments.

Laliberte says the refusal of both levels of government to invest more infrastructure in the North is the single biggest reason why job numbers are not better in Churchill River.
