Laliberte Decides Against Seeking Nomination

Churchill River MP Rick Laliberte has announced he will not be seeking the Liberal nomination in his riding.
However, Laliberte has not ruled out running as an independent in Churchill River.
He says part of the reason he’s distancing himself from the Liberals is the lack of support he received from the party last year when he was being questioned about his high travel claims.
Laliberte also says he was left with a sour taste in his mouth when the executive of the Liberals’ Churchill River constituency association let it be known they were looking for a change.
Laliberte also wants to make it clear that the party did not pressure him to make this decision — he made the call on his own.
Laliberte was first elected as the riding’s MP in 1997 when he was with the NDP. He became a Liberal when he crossed the floor in 2001.
Laliberte says he will wait a while longer before deciding if he will seek re-election as an independent.
