A trial has been set for a 67-year-old man accused of causing the death of a member of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation over three decades ago.

William George Lafaver appeared in a Prince Albert courtroom yesterday.

A judge determined enough evidence exists to try the man for the death of 27-year-old Caroline Roberts.

She died in 1975 after emergency crews responded to a call for help at a cabin near the boundary fire tower in Prince Albert National Park.

When they got there, they found Roberts unconscious and suffering from head injuries.

She was taken to the Big River hospital, where she later died.

An investigation at the time did not result in charges.

However, new evidence was brought to light recently, resulting in a charge of manslaughter against Lafaver.

His trial is set for late November.
