La Ronge Wild Mushroom Harvest Disappointing

An agrologist in north-central Saskatchewan says the morel mushroom harvest in the area is not doing as well as in previous years.

Gerry Ivanochko says the wild mushroom harvest on the west side is doing great, but things aren’t looking as well in the La Ronge area and north of the community.

Ivanochko says it may have something to do with the fluctuating temperatures in the area this spring.

Prior to the season, there were predictions of a strong wild mushroom harvest in the area because of last summer’s forest fires in the region.

Ivanochko says the wild mushroom harvest may pick up in the coming months, and he’s remaining optimistic about it.
