La Ronge Warned About Excess Runoff

According to the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority, northern areas of the province could experience a high spring runoff.

Due to above average winter precipitation and a very wet fall, there is potential that the peak flows could approach those experienced in the region last spring — with very high levels expected on Houghton Lake, Deadmoose Lake and Fishing Lake.

Authority spokesman Doug Johnson says La Ronge could be hit hardest of all.

However, further north, Johnson’s group is predicting the Athabasca region will see quite a bit less runoff.

As well, he notes southern areas of the province have had well below normal winter precipitation.

Even though it’s still early, Johnson warns that people should take the proper precautions to ensure that their property will be kept safe and dry when the temperature begins to rise.
