Ten students from the Churchill Composite High School in La Ronge have successfully completed the first aircraft maintenance orientation program offered in Saskatchewan.

The course was designed to help high school students become familiar with careers in the aviation industry.

Cumberland MLA Joan Beatty says this new program has proven to be a good way to introduce northern youth to the industry.

Beatty says the program was well received by the school and students and it will be offered to other students or schools that want to try it.

At least one student who was enrolled in the program says her experience has prompted her to pursue a career as an aircraft maintenance engineer.

Representatives from Churchill High say the Aircraft Maintenance Orientation Program will be offered to graduating students in the years to come.
