La Ronge Taxis Refuse LLRIB Medical Trips

Taxi companies in La Ronge continue to refuse medical transportation trips for members of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

L-A Family Taxi owner Larry Werkola says they’ve decided to take these drastic measures following a number of cases where reimbursement hasn’t been issued by the band.

Werkola says he’s tried on a number of occasions to work with the band to deal with the problems they’re facing, but those efforts have been unsuccessful.

Although the refusal to take trips has been in place since March 25th, Werkola says a number of band members continue to call for rides and subsequently get quite upset when they’re denied.

Officials with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s health department have been unavailable for comment.
