The Olympic flame is coming to La Ronge.

The official torch for the 2010 Winter Games will land in the northern Saskatchewan community on November 7th, 2009.

Although details haven’t been finalized yet, some residents will be given the chance to act as torch-bearers during the brief visit.

Local event manager Tammy Fiske says the organizing committee for the Games approached La Ronge earlier this year about the possibility of having the torch pass through.

She says the Vanoc torch relay committee got the idea from the Saskatchewan government, and approved La Ronge as a relay route location in September.

The chief of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band says she’s thrilled with the news.

Tammy Cook-Searson says the event is primarily aimed at youth.

Other Saskatchewan locations to be visited include Wanuskewin Heritage Park, North Battleford, Prince Albert and the Moosomin First Nation.
