La Ronge Natural Gas Project Gets Green Light

Natural gas will soon be coming to La Ronge, Air Ronge and Weyakwin.

SaskEnergy spokesman Dave Burdeniuk says the campaign to bring natural gas to these northern communities has exceeded its set goal of 500 sign-ups.

The Crown utility had imposed a January 31st deadline for the communities to demonstrate there was enough interest to build a natural gas pipeline to La Ronge.

There was a chance the project wasn’t going to proceed, especially since there were only 176 commitments two weeks prior to the deadline.

But a last-minute push proved successful, and it appears construction of the pipeline will begin this year.

SaskEnergy has previously said it hopes to introduce the service by 2008.

Burdeniuk says an official announcement will be made from a La Ronge business on March 8th.
