A La Ronge man who police say was attacked by his son during a domestic dispute almost two weeks ago has died from his injuries.

68-year-old Lawrence Edward McKenzie passed away in hospital early yesterday morning.

44-year-old Lawrence Eugene McKenzie has been arrested and is in police custody.

He was originally charged with aggravated assault, but RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Carole Raymond says that will be upgraded because of his father’s death.

But Raymond says investigators and prosecutors haven’t yet decided on a new charge.

The suspect is to appear in court in La Ronge on April 21st.

The RCMP say the elder McKenzie was assaulted by his son on the night of March 10th during a dispute in the family’s La Ronge-area home.

The victim was found by friends on his bed several hours later — unconscious and not responding to their efforts to awaken him.

EMS was called and he was rushed to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, but never did regain consciousness.
