A long-time legal aid attorney in La Ronge has been appointed to the provincial court.
Felicia Daunt is one of three people recently chosen to serve as a judge in the province.
A public defender since 1992, Daunt is a permanent resident in La Ronge and recently filed a charter application protesting the RCMP’s policy of prisoner transportation in northern Saskatchewan.
She admits to being shocked to hear she was chosen.
Daunt says her time in La Ronge has served her well, and she believes the experience she has gained in northern issues will help her on the bench.
Daunt says it will be a while before she is actually sitting as a judge in La Ronge.
She adds her current case files will have to be transferred over to a co-worker.
