La Ronge Hit Hard By Combination Of Thunderstorms

A funnel cloud was spotted in La Ronge early last night, and an Environment Canada official wouldn’t be surprised if he received reports of more sightings yesterday from other parts of the North.
Bob Cormier says numerous storm cells were created when a cold front from Alberta collided with some warm air in northern Saskatchewan.
Severe thunderstorm activity was reported in communities like Montreal Lake, Pinehouse and Buffalo Narrows, and west of Prince Albert National Park.
But, Cormier says the La Ronge area was probably the hardest hit.
Aside from the swirling clouds, Cormier says the unstable weather also produced nickel-sized hail and 35 millimetres of rain in the region.
He says the wild weather lasted over two hours because the system kept on producing new storms.
Cormier says today’s forecast calls for more thunderstorm activity in the North, although it likely won’t be as severe as last night.
