La Ronge Businesses Not Completely Sold On Tourism

Some members of the La Ronge Chamber of Commerce are wondering if the labour force in the community will be able to handle an increase in tourism.

Chamber President Bill Hogan says some businesses have begun to wonder if they will have enough staff to accommodate an increase should the chamber decide to try to bring in more tourists.

Hogan believes one solution to address the labour shortage problem could involve businesses working more closely with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in order to tap into the band population.

Hogan says his group is currently trying to find a plan that will best suit local businesses — and they haven’t made a decision about whether to spend money on increasing tourism or convincing locals to keep their money in the area.

He hopes to continue the discussion at the next chamber meeting.
