La Loche Election Recount Into Second Day

The judicial recount of ballots cast in the recent La Loche civic election continues.

The process got started in Battleford Court of Queen’s Bench yesterday, but court officials believe it will likely be this afternoon before the counting is complete.

The recount was ordered after former mayor John (JJ) Janvier challenged the results of the October 4th election for mayor in La Loche.

He lost by 15 votes to incumbent Georgina Jolibois, who managed to win despite picking up 35 per cent of the votes. Four other candidates picked up the remainder of the votes.

Two unsuccessful candidates for council also asked for a recount after just missing out on a seat on council.
