A couple in La Loche were among several individuals in this province that were fined last year for failing to file income tax returns.

The Canada Revenue Agency recently released the names of 11 people that received court-imposed penalties for tax-related infractions last year.

The agency says Daniel and Linda Tizzard of La Loche were each fined one-thousand dollars for failing to file personal income tax returns for 2000 and 2001.

Anyone that’s fined still has to file the missing tax returns in question, pay any taxes owing, in addition to paying late-filing penalties and interest on any taxes that are owed.

The CRA says failure to file tax returns when required is a serious threat to the integrity of the tax system and creates an unfair burden on those who do comply.
