Killing Unrelated To Gangs, Election: Police

The RCMP say the killing in the La Loche area over the weekend was not gang-related, nor was it connected to a recent band election in the area.

Mitchell Don Lemaigre, 20, has been charged with manslaughter in the stabbing death of 30-year-old Palmer Nicky Piche. Both men are members of the Clearwater River Dene Nation.

The RCMP say the death was the result of an altercation on the reserve.

The victim’s body was discovered early Saturday morning outside a residence on the reserve.

Lemaigre made his first court appearance on the charge in La Loche Provincial Court this morning.

Piche’s autopsy is currently underway in Saskatoon.

The cause of death is being withheld pending autopsy results.
