The chief of the Kawacatoose First Nation says it was a desire to provide his people with better care that prompted the band to announce that it wants to build a new $10 million health centre.

Earlier this week, the band held a news conference to outline plans for the facility in east Regina.

Chief Dennis Dustyhorn says he hopes Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people needing MRIs can be serviced by the centre.

Dustyhorn says both levels of government have been supportive of the idea, so far.

He says the First Nation is taking out a loan to make the project happen.
