Justice Minister Frank Quennell was in La Loche today to talk with the local mayor, and proposed anti-crime initiatives were part of the agenda.

Quennell was visiting La Loche as part of a tour of northern communities that began earlier this week.

This past weekend, La Loche mayor Georgina Jolibois organized a public meeting in the community to discuss violence, alcohol, drugs, break-ins and vandalism in La Loche.

At the end of the gathering, a committee was struck to create an action plan that would deal with some of the community’s problems.

Quennell confirms Jolibois requested the province’s help in developing and implementing that action plan in their discussion this morning.
